Aṣṭāvakra’s Visit to Kubera: Hospitality, Temptation, and the Ethics of Restraint (अष्टावक्र-वैश्रवणोपाख्यानम्)
iti matvā hṛdi mataṁ prāha māṁ surasattamaḥ | mayi sambhāvanā yāsyāḥ phalāt kṛṣṇo bhaviṣyati ||
Inner intention and sincere devotional aspiration (sambhāvanā) are presented as causally efficacious: the ‘fruit’ of a heartfelt longing directed toward the divine manifests as a concrete boon—in this case, the birth of a son named Kṛṣṇa.
Parāśara recounts that Śiva, perceiving the desire in his heart, addresses him and declares that Parāśara’s reverent wish for a boon will bear fruit as the attainment of a son named Kṛṣṇa.
