Educational Q&A

The verse establishes Bhīṣma’s authority as a dharma-instructor: ethical guidance should be sought from one who is both profoundly wise and grounded in multiple recognized scriptural traditions (śāstra/āgama), especially within a lineage where duty and precedent matter.

Yudhiṣṭhira respectfully addresses Bhīṣma, praising his learning and wisdom to frame a forthcoming inquiry. This formal acknowledgment sets the tone for instruction in Anuśāsana Parva, where Bhīṣma expounds dharma and right conduct.
