धौग्य उवाच
Proper performance of prescribed ancestral/ritual duties (especially connected with śrāddha and purificatory offerings) is said to bring the performer well-being and mental ease, and to please the Pitṛs, who are understood to draw near at the śrāddha occasion.
Dhaugya describes the fruit of a specific rite: when it is carried out correctly—using substances associated with the cow (urine, dung, milk, ghee) in the context of śrāddha—the performer becomes free from distress, and the ancestors are delighted and present themselves at the time of the ancestral offering.
