Yudhiṣṭhira uvāca | ahiṃsā paramo dharma ity uktaṃ bahuśas tvayā | jāto naḥ saṃśayo dharme māṃsasya parivarjane | doṣo bhakṣayataḥ kaḥ syāt kaś cābhakṣayato guṇaḥ ||

یُدھِشٹھِر نے کہا— اے پِتامہ! آپ نے بارہا فرمایا ہے کہ اہنسا (عدمِ تشدد) ہی پرم دھرم ہے۔ اسی سبب میرے دل میں گوشت سے پرہیز کے دھرم کے بارے میں شبہ پیدا ہوا ہے۔ پس آپ بتائیے— جو گوشت کھاتا ہے اس پر کون سا عیب چڑھتا ہے، اور جو گوشت نہیں کھاتا اسے کون سا ثواب حاصل ہوتا ہے؟
