काम्येष्टयः — ऐन्द्राग्न-आग्नेय-वैश्वानर-ऐन्द्र-आग्नावैष्णव-सोमारौद्रादि निर्-वपन-प्रकरणम्
TS 2.2 functions as a catalogued ritual-grammar for Kāmya-Iṣṭis, embedding short mythic etiologies (arthavāda) into actionable nirvapana prescriptions. Across its anuvākas, the text maps desired outcomes—progeny, victory, social cohesion, restoration of ritual capacity, and luminous prestige—onto deity-pairs and offering-forms (puroḍāśa/carū) with specified kapāla counts. This creates a ‘ritual geometry’ where meter-number correspondences (gāyatrī/triṣṭubh/jagatī ↔ 8/11/12) and deity-functions (Agni as mediator, Indra as indriya/vīrya, Viṣṇu as yajña, Soma-Rudra as radiance/constraint) become interoperable modules. In the Śrauta calendar, these units are deployed as corrective or augmentative overlays upon standard Haviryajña cycles (e.g., Darśa-Paurṇamāsa) and as situational rites for conflict, travel, or communal alignment. The prapāṭhaka thus serves as an Adhvaryu-facing decision-tree: select aim → select deity-form → execute nirvapana with appropriate sequencing, recitations, and stabilizing bandhu logic.

अग्नये कामाय पुरोडासम् अष्टाकपालं निर् वपेद् यं कामो नोपनमेत् । अग्निम् एव कामं स्वेन भागधेयेनोप धावति । स एवैनं कामेन सम् अर्धयति । उपैनं कामो नमति । अग्नये यविष्ठाय पुरोडासम् अष्टाकपालं निर् वपेत् स्पर्धमानः क्षेत्रे वा सजातेषु वा । अग्निम् एव यविष्ठं स्वेन भागधेयेनोप धावति । तेनैवेन्द्रियं वीर्यं भ्रात्र्व्यस्य ।
He should prepare an eight-pot-sherd cake for Agni for desire, if desire does not come near him. He runs up to Agni as desire with his own allotted portion; he thereby wins him by desire; desire comes near him. He should prepare an eight-pot-sherd cake for Agni the youngest, if he is in rivalry in the field or among his peers; he runs up to Agni the youngest with his own allotted portion; thereby (he takes) the faculty and strength of his rival.

युवते वि पाप्मना भ्रात्र्व्येण जयते । अग्नये यविष्ठाय पुरोडाशम् अष्टाकपालं निर्वपेद् अभिचर्यमाणः । अग्निम् एव यविष्ठं स्वेन भागधेयेनोप धावति । स एवास्माद् रक्षांसि यवयति । नैनम् अभिचरन्त् स्तृणुते । अग्नय आयुष्मते पुरोडाशम् अष्टाकपालं निर्वपेद् यः कामयेत सर्वम् आयुर् इयाम् इति । अग्निम् एवायुष्मन्तं स्वेन भागधेयेनोप धावति । स एवास्मिन् (इति)
He keeps off evil; he conquers the rival. If one is being assailed, he should set out an eight-potsherd cake for Agni the youngest; he resorts to Agni the youngest with his own allotted portion; he thereby drives away from him the hostile powers; the assailant does not overpower him. For Agni the life-giving he should set out an eight-potsherd cake, if he should desire, ‘May I attain full length of life’; he resorts to Agni the life-giving with his own allotted portion; he thereby (attains it).

अष्टाकपालं निर् वपेत् तेजस्कामस् । अग्निम् एव तेजस्वन्तं स्वेन भागधेयेनोप धावति । स एवास्मिन् तेजो दधाति । तेजस्व्य् एव भवति । अग्नये साहन्त्याय पुरोडासम् अष्टाकपालं निर् वपेत् । सीक्षमाणस् अग्निम् एव साहन्त्यं स्वेन भागधेयेनोप धावति । तेनैव सहते यं सीक्षते ॥
He should set out an eightfold portion if he desires brilliance; with his own due share he draws near to Agni as brilliant; he thus places brilliance in him; he becomes brilliant. For Agni for overcoming he should set out an eightfold cake; when striving against (an opponent) he draws near to Agni for overcoming with his own due share; thereby he overcomes him against whom he strives.
