Mukti-tattva Upadeśa: Knowledge as the Direct Cause of Liberation
शरीररक्षणोपायाः क्रि यन्ते सर्वदा बुधैः / नेच्छन्ति च पुनस्त्यागमपि कुष्ठादिरोगिणः
śarīrarakṣaṇopāyāḥ kri yante sarvadā budhaiḥ / necchanti ca punastyāgamapi kuṣṭhādirogiṇaḥ
دانشمند ہمیشہ جسم کی حفاظت کے طریقے اختیار کرتے ہیں؛ کوڑھ وغیرہ کے مریض بھی دوبارہ جسم چھوڑنا نہیں چاہتے۔
Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinatā-putra)

Application: Treat the body as an instrument: maintain health and discipline so spiritual practice and duty can be pursued.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana (Preta-khanda/Pretakalpa): repeated emphasis on urgency of practice before death and the helplessness after death
This verse highlights how strong attachment to the body is: even severe illness does not easily produce willingness to relinquish embodied life, underscoring the need for spiritual discernment and preparation for death.
By pointing to the instinctive clinging to the body, it explains why guidance, rites, and right understanding are needed at death—because the transition is resisted at the psychological level even amid suffering.
Cultivate steady awareness that the body is protected and cared for, yet not ultimate—practice detachment, ethical living, and remembrance of mortality so that fear and clinging lessen when facing illness or death.
