स्वर्गे ऽपि दुः खमतुलं यदारोहणकालतः / प्रभृत्यहं पतिष्यामीत्येतन्मनसि वर्तते
svarge 'pi duḥ khamatulaṃ yadārohaṇakālataḥ / prabhṛtyahaṃ patiṣyāmītyetanmanasi vartate
سَورگ میں بھی بے مثال غم ہے؛ کیونکہ وہاں چڑھتے ہی دل میں یہ خیال آتا ہے—‘میں یہاں سے ضرور گر پڑوں گا۔’
Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda/Vinata-putra)
Afterlife Stage: Svarga
Concept: Even svarga contains duḥkha because it is finite; awareness of falling makes enjoyment insecure.
Vedantic Theme: Anityatva of svarga; duḥkha-miśratva of bhoga; impetus toward mokṣa as the only fear-free state.
Application: Redirect aspiration from temporary rewards to liberation; practice remembrance of the impermanent nature of achievements to reduce attachment.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Type: heaven-realm
Related Themes: Garuda Purana Pretakalpa: puṇya-kṣaya leading to fall; critique of svarga as ultimate goal
This verse highlights that svarga is a temporary karmic result; the anxiety of eventual decline begins the moment heavenly enjoyment starts, underscoring the Purana’s emphasis on seeking lasting liberation rather than transient rewards.
It implies that post-death destinations like svarga depend on accumulated punya and are finite; once merit is spent, the jiva returns to lower realms, so the soul’s journey continues until true freedom from karma is attained.
Perform dharma and rites with a liberation-oriented mindset—use merit for purification and devotion rather than chasing status or pleasure, remembering that temporary gains inevitably end.
