Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 3.7.18-19 (argument for cutting attachment; refuge in the Lord)
This verse frames detachment as a divine gift gained through constant remembrance of the Lord, helping one turn away from harmful sense-objects that lead to sin and suffering.
By asking for dispassion toward “duṣṭa-viṣayas,” the verse points to the karmic danger of indulgence; restraint and devotion reduce actions that produce painful consequences described elsewhere in the Purana.
Practice daily remembrance (japa, prayer, or meditation) and consciously reduce addictive or unethical pleasures; treat detachment as a spiritual discipline supported by devotion.
