Purusha-Strī-Lakṣaṇa (Samudrika-śāstra): Marks of Kingship, Wealth, Longevity, and Conduct
छत्राकारैः शिरोभिस्तु नृपा निम्नशिरा धनी / चिपिटैश्च पितुर्मृत्युर्गवाद्याः परिमण्डलैः
chatrākāraiḥ śirobhistu nṛpā nimnaśirā dhanī / cipiṭaiśca piturmṛtyurgavādyāḥ parimaṇḍalaiḥ
Lord Vishnu (in instruction to Garuda/Vinatā-putra)
Concept: Physical cranial shapes are interpreted as karmic indicators for rulership, prosperity, paternal fate, and vocational tendencies.
Vedantic Theme: Karma shaping birth-conditions (janma) and social station; the body as a field of prārabdha.
Application: Treat such readings as cultural anthropology and self-reflection; prioritize dharma and compassion over deterministic judgments about vocation or family destiny.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: vira
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.65 (śarīra-lakṣaṇa phala)
This verse treats physical features as karmic indicators—signs that traditionally suggest likely social role, prosperity, or family outcomes.
Indirectly: it implies that prior karma leaves impressions even on the body’s form, which then correlates with one’s life circumstances and experiences.
Use it as a reflection on karma and conduct rather than fatalism—prioritize dharma and ethical living instead of judging worth by physical traits.
