سوت نے کہا: ‘لفظ “پورْوَ” کو—پہلا، پہلے والے، پہلے سے، اور پہلے میں—ان معانی میں کہا گیا ہے۔ جہاں سُپ اور تِنگ کے لاحقے ختم ہوتے ہیں، وہ “سِدّھ روپ” صرف نام کے طور پر دکھایا گیا تھا؛ مگر کُمار سے سن کر کاتْیایَن نے اسے تفصیل سے بیان کیا۔’
Sūta
Concept: Śabda-śāstra: meaning and form are systematized; grammatical categories (sup/tiṅ) and derivational understanding are transmitted through authoritative teachers.
Vedantic Theme: Śabda as pramāṇa (means of knowledge) and the disciplined use of language for right understanding.
Application: Study foundational grammar/metrics to preserve textual integrity; apply careful semantic analysis before drawing doctrinal conclusions.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.207 (immediately following chandas/śāstra exposition; internal continuity)
The verse references the foundational grammatical framework where nouns take suP case-endings and verbs take tiṅ endings, indicating that a standard linguistic form was only briefly named and later elaborated in detail.
It shows the Purana’s inclusion of technical, traditional learning—here, a brief mention of a grammatical point followed by attribution to an authoritative explanatory lineage (Kumāra → Kātyāyana).
It encourages careful study: brief labels and summaries are useful, but deeper understanding comes from detailed explanations and learning within a reliable tradition.
