Lord Vishnu (in discourse to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Dosha: Vata

Concept: A specific herbal-oil formulation applied to the genital region is claimed to produce vaśīkaraṇa (power to influence).

Vedantic Theme: Tamas/rajas-driven pursuit of control through sensory and bodily means; bondage through kāma and phala-āśā.

Application: Treat as a historical record of occult-erotic praxis; do not practice coercive rites; if considering any herbal topical use, prioritize medical safety and consent.

Primary Rasa: bibhatsa

Secondary Rasa: shringara

FAQs

This verse shows that the text also preserves pragmatic ritual and medicinal lore, including influence-attracting applications, reflecting a broader Purāṇic catalog of rites alongside dharma and afterlife teachings.

Within the Vishnu–Garuda dialogue, some chapters present practical prescriptions (herbal/ritual) in addition to eschatology; this verse is one such formula-oriented instruction rather than a description of Yama’s realm.

As a textual takeaway, it highlights the traditional use of specific herbs and sesame oil in classical Indian formulations; any real-world use should be approached ethically and with qualified medical guidance rather than for coercive intent.
