Rambhā-Tṛtīyā Vrata: annual cycle of Devī worship, offerings, and dāna
तिलाशो बिल्वपत्रैश्च क्षीरान्नवटकप्रदः / औदुम्बरं दन्तकाष्ठं तगर्याः श्रावणे श्रियम्
tilāśo bilvapatraiśca kṣīrānnavaṭakapradaḥ / audumbaraṃ dantakāṣṭhaṃ tagaryāḥ śrāvaṇe śriyam
Lord Viṣṇu (in instruction to Garuḍa)
Concept: Māsānusāra-upacāra: month-specific offerings and daily purity-practices generate śrī through dharmic alignment.
Vedantic Theme: Īśvara-arpita karma (offering-oriented action) purifies antaḥkaraṇa and supports sattva.
Application: Observe Śrāvaṇa regimen: offer tila and bilva in pūjā, prepare kṣīrānna/vaṭaka as naivedya/dāna, use udumbara dantakāṣṭha, employ tagara as auspicious fragrance.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.120 (māsavrata/upacāra sequence continuing in 1.120.8-11)
This verse presents Śrāvaṇa-specific offerings and daily observances (tila, bilva leaves, kṣīrānna, vaṭaka, udumbara dantakāṣṭha, tagara) as means to attain śrī—auspicious prosperity and merit through disciplined dāna and ācāra.
Indirectly: by prescribing righteous conduct and ritual purity, it supports the Garuda Purana’s broader teaching that dharmic living and meritorious acts (dāna/vrata) shape one’s post-death outcomes and well-being beyond this life.
Observe Śrāvaṇa with simple, sattvic discipline: make a small charitable food offering (milk-rice/sweets), include sacred leaves in worship if appropriate, and cultivate clean daily habits—treating these as reminders to live generously and regularly.
