Kṛṣṇa Teases Rukmiṇī; Her Devotional Reply and the Lord’s Assurance
śrī-śuka uvāca evaṁ saurata-saṁlāpair bhagavān jagad-īśvaraḥ sva-rato ramayā reme nara-lokaṁ viḍambayan
The word viḍambayan means “imitating” and also “ridiculing.” The Lord acted like a husband of this world, but His pastimes are transcendental and expose the perverted nature of mundane activities aimed at bodily sense gratification.
This verse says the Supreme Lord (jagad-īśvara) freely enjoys with Rukmiṇī while “viḍambayan” — playfully imitating the customs and moods of human society.
To show that Kṛṣṇa’s household and romantic pastimes are divine līlā—He remains the Lord of all, yet out of love He participates in affectionate, humanlike exchanges with His devotee-wife.
See sacred relationships through the lens of devotion: love and intimacy become purified when centered on God, remembering that the Lord can be present in ordinary life while remaining transcendental.
