Nārada Explains the Allegory of King Purañjana
Deha–Indriya–Manaḥ Mapping and the Remedy of Bhakti
सोऽचिरादेव राजर्षे स्यादच्युतकथाश्रय: । शृण्वत: श्रद्दधानस्य नित्यदा स्यादधीयत: ॥ ३८ ॥
so ’cirād eva rājarṣe syād acyuta-kathāśrayaḥ śṛṇvataḥ śraddadhānasya nityadā syād adhīyataḥ
Constant engagement in the transcendental loving service of Vāsudeva means constantly hearing the glories of the Lord. The principles of bhakti-yoga — śravaṇaṁ kīrtanaṁ viṣṇoḥ smaraṇaṁ pāda-sevanam/ arcanaṁ vandanaṁ dāsyaṁ sakhyam ātma-nivedanam — are the only means by which perfection can be attained. Simply by hearing of the glories of the Lord, one is elevated to the transcendental position.
This verse says that one who faithfully hears and regularly studies the Lord’s narrations quickly becomes sheltered in Acyuta-kathā—devotional absorption that purifies the heart.
King Prācīnabarhi was absorbed in ritualistic karma; Nārada instructed him toward bhakti, emphasizing that steady hearing and study of the Lord’s topics swiftly brings true spiritual refuge.
Set a daily habit of hearing or reading Śrīmad Bhāgavatam—even a short portion—with faith and consistency; over time it naturally shifts the mind toward devotion and detachment from distractions.
