व्यासशौनकादिसंवादः | Vyāsa–Śaunaka and the Sages: Opening Dialogue of the Kailāsa-saṃhitā

Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Jyotirlinga: Viśvanātha
Sthala Purana: The verse articulates the fruit (kṛtārthatā) of pleasing Śiva—an idea central to Kāśī’s promise of mokṣa under Viśvanātha’s grace.
Significance: Frames Śiva-bhakti as the consummation of all puruṣārthas; in Kāśī this is classically interpreted as liberation through Śiva’s special grace.
Role: liberating
The verse teaches that true life-fulfillment (kṛtārthatā) culminates in Śiva-prīti—securing the Lord’s grace—after which the devotee naturally abides in steady Śiva-bhakti, the Shaiva path to liberation.
“Pleasing Śiva” is practically embodied in Saguna worship—especially Linga-pūjā with mantra, offerings, and reverence—through which devotion matures and the devotee’s aims become ‘fully accomplished’ by Śiva’s favor.
A clear takeaway is daily Śiva-bhakti: regular Linga worship with the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), supported by purity and steadiness; the emphasis is constancy (sadā) rather than a single act.
