Awaken us to-day, O Uṣas, for great (good), for wealth, thou radiant in heaven; even as thou hast awakened us of old; O truly-famed, O daughter of the sky, well-born, bestowing horses and sūnṛtā.
Mantra 2
या सुनीथे शौचद्रथे व्यौच्छो दुहितर्दिवः सा व्युच्छ सहीयसि सत्यश्रवसि वाय्ये सुजाते अश्वसूनृते
Thou who, of good guidance and of radiant car, hast shone forth, O daughter of heaven; do thou shine forth, for thou art the mightier; O truly-famed, O daughter of the sky, well-born, bestowing horses and sūnṛtā.
Mantra 3
सा नो अद्याभरद्वसुर्व्युच्छा दुहितर्दिवः यो व्यौच्छः सहीयसि सत्यश्रवसि याय्ये सुजाते अश्वसूनृते
She, the widely-dawning daughter of heaven, hath to-day brought us wealth; she who hath shone forth, the most potent, of true renown, worthy to be approached, well-born, bestowing horses and auspicious utterance.
It praises Indra’s vast power and effective thunderbolt, while showing that the sacrifice succeeds through right ritual intelligence (dhiṣaṇā), Agni’s guidance, and Uṣas’ auspicious dawning.
In soma worship, Indra’s receiving of offerings depends on Agni as the regulated carrier and priest of the rite, and on Uṣas as the time-marker and auspicious opener who brings prosperity to the sacrificer.
It presents inspired, rite-linked intelligence (dhiṣaṇā) as the force that ‘sharpens’ Indra’s weapon—i.e., correct sacrificial insight and performance make divine power operative for protection and victory.
