Pavamāna purification and cosmic manifestation through Soma’s (and allied powers’) luminous ordering of the worlds
Pavamāna Soma (purifying Soma as the implicit kanda focus)
Bright expansive and consecratory—moving from kindling-energy to wide-world benediction
Anukta/unspecified overall (mixed sources within the decad)
Pavamāna-stotra setting: chants aligned to Soma’s purification/pressing and the consecratory atmosphere of the Soma-yajña (exact graha/pressing linkage depends on śākhā prayoga).
Mantra 1
They shine, O Agni, when thou art kindled, bright (are thy flames); thy tongue moves between the jaws: do thou then, O Agni, winner of wealth, bestow upon us, with nourishment, riches and lustre to be beheld.
Mantra 2
Spring verily rejoiceth; summer verily rejoiceth; the rains, and thereafter the autumns; winter and the cold season verily rejoice (in attendance) upon the sacrifice.
Mantra 3
The Puruṣa is thousand-headed, thousand-eyed, thousand-footed; encompassing the earth on every side, he stood beyond it by the measure of ten fingers.
Mantra 4
Three quarters of the Puruṣa rose aloft; again one quarter of him became here: thence he expanded on every side over that which eateth and that which eateth not.
Mantra 5
The Puruṣa alone is all this, whatsoever hath been and whatsoever is to be; one quarter of him is all beings, but his three quarters are the immortal in heaven.
Mantra 6
Such is his greatness; yet the Puruṣa is greater than this: he is also the lord of immortality, since by food (the oblation) he transcendeth (the manifested).
Mantra 7
Thence Virāj was produced; and from Virāj the Puruṣa: when born, he exceeded the earth, behind and also before.
Mantra 8
I acknowledge you, Heaven and Earth, bountiful of sustenance, who have spread yourselves forth immeasurably to the full extent: be ye to us a kindly seat; do ye release us from sin and suffering.
Mantra 9
Thy two tawny steeds, O Indra, and thy manly beard; thy two bay steeds: thee, the tawny-horsed, do sages praise, men, the Vanargavas.
Mantra 10
What lustre is of gold, or what lustre is of kine, and what lustre is of true Brahman; with that lustre do thou unite us.
Mantra 11
Bestow upon us, O Indra, abundant strength; for thou, strong-handed, art lord of this great (power): grant us manly might like energy of purpose, and firm vigour with the prize; and amongst the obstructers make us slayers of enemies.
Mantra 12
The Waters, rejoicing together, accompanied by their calves, have risen up, bearing manifold forms; may this your world be wide and ample: do ye, these Waters, of beneficent hands, abide here (for our rite).
It links ritual purification with cosmic order: Soma’s purifying current is supported by Agni’s offering-power, the Waters’ cleansing presence, and Puruṣa–Virāj as the vast ground of creation.
In Soma ritual, purification and offering work together: Agni carries oblations, while the Waters symbolize cleansing, fertility, and an auspicious space where the rite can ‘abide’ and succeed.
It supplies a cosmological frame: from Virāj arises Puruṣa, who surpasses earth and directions—teaching that the power invoked in sacrifice is not limited to the visible world but overflows it.
