मधुवनभङ्गः
The Disruption of Madhuvana and Dadhimukha’s Complaint
कृत्वा केचिद्धसन्त्यन्ये केचित्कुर्वन्ति चेतरत्।कृत्वा केचिद्वदन्त्यन्ये केचिद्बुध्यन्ति चेतरत्।।5.62.14।।
kṛtvā kecid hasanty anye kecit kurvanti cetarat | kṛtvā kecid vadanty anye kecid budhyanti cetarat ||5.62.14||
May ilan na, matapos gumawa ng isang bagay, ay pinatawa ang iba; may ilan namang gumawa ng iba pa. May ilan na, matapos gumawa ng isang bagay, ay patuloy na nakikipag-usap; ngunit ang iba’y ibinaling ang isip sa ibang gawain.
Some made others laugh, some provoked others and some thought of doing something else having got over the intoxication.
It highlights the instability of conduct under intoxication and excitement; Dharma values steadiness (dhairya) and self-restraint (dama) rather than impulsive, disorderly behavior.
The vānaras, having gained access to Madhuvana and honey, behave in varied, unruly ways—laughing, provoking, talking, and shifting from one act to another.
By contrast (implicitly), the virtue emphasized is self-control—acting with restraint even amid celebration and success.
