Sugriva’s Remorse and Tara’s Lament after Vali’s Death
महाबलानां हरियूथपानामिदं कुलं राघव मन्निमित्तम्।अस्याङ्गदप्यापि च शोकतापादर्धस्थितप्राणमितीव मन्ये।।।।
mahābalānāṃ hariyūthapānām idaṃ kulaṃ rāghava mannimittam |
asyāṅgadasyāpy api ca śokatāpād ardhasthita-prāṇam itīva manye ||
O Rāghava, dahil sa akin, ang angkang ito ng makapangyarihang mga pinunò ng mga pangkat ng mga unggoy ay wari’y kalahating patay; lalo na si Aṅgada, na tila napapaso ng pighati at pagsisisi, na animo’y kalahati na lamang ang hininga.
Face drenched with tears, highly sensitive Sugriva glanced at Tara for a moment.Pained and depressed at heart, and surrounded by attendants, he slowly approached Rama.
Adharma harms not only the perpetrator but the entire community; dharma includes responsibility for the social and familial fallout of one’s actions.
Sugrīva laments that his act has weakened the monkey leadership and left Angada devastated.
Responsibility—Sugrīva acknowledges wider damage rather than treating the act as a private matter.
