द्वादशः सर्गः — Rama’s Proof of Power, the First Duel, and the Identification Mark
Kishkindha Kanda, Sarga 12
सुग्रीव श्रूयातां तात क्रोधश्च व्यपनीयताम्।कारणं येन बाणोऽयं न मया स विसर्जितः4.12.29।।
sugrīva śrūyatāṁ tāta krodhaś ca vyapanīyatām |
kāraṇaṁ yena bāṇo ’yaṁ na mayā sa visarjitaḥ || 4.12.29 ||
Sugrīva, kaibigan kong mahal—makinig ka, at iwaksi ang iyong poot. Sasabihin ko ang dahilan kung bakit hindi ko pinakawalan ang palasong ito.
'O dear Sugriva! dispel your anger and listen to me why I had not released the arrow.
Dharma includes mastery over anger and commitment to truthful explanation; Rāma asks for calm listening before acting or judging.
After the first clash, Sugrīva is upset that Vālī was not struck; Rāma begins explaining his restraint.
Rāma’s composure and accountability—he offers reasons rather than excuses.
