Bestowal of Divine Astras to Rama
दर्पणं शोषणं चैव सन्तापनविलापने।मदनं चैव दुर्धर्षं कन्दर्पदयितं तथा।।।।पैशाचमस्त्रं दयितं मोहनं नाम नामतः।प्रतीच्छ नरशार्दूल राजपुत्र महायशः।।।।
darpaṇaṃ śoṣaṇaṃ caiva santāpanavilāpane |
madanaṃ caiva durdharṣaṃ kandarpadayitaṃ tathā ||
paiśācam astraṃ dayitaṃ mohanaṃ nāma nāmataḥ |
pratīccha naraśārdūla rājaputra mahāyaśaḥ ||1.27.15||
Tanggapin mo, O tigre sa mga tao, O prinsipe na dakila ang karangalan, ang mga ito: Darpaṇa at Śoṣaṇa; Santāpana at Vilāpana; at si Madana, ang di-madadaig, na minamahal ni Kandarpa; at ang minamahal na sandatang Paiśāca na tinatawag sa pangalang Mohana.
O renowned prince, best among men, receive these astras known as darpana, soshana, santhapana, vilapana, madana astra, the unassailable one favoured by kamadeva and the paisacha astra known as mohana favoured by demons.
Dharma demands mastery with restraint: even enchantment- or torment-associated astras are entrusted to a righteous prince so they are used only when necessary and for protection.
Viśvāmitra continues the catalogue of astras, instructing Rāma to receive multiple named weapons, including Mohana of the Paiśāca class.
Moral eligibility: epithets like naraśārdūla and mahāyaśas frame Rāma as one whose fame rests on virtue, making him fit to bear dangerous capabilities.
