Ravana Reveals Himself; Sita Affirms Rama’s Dharma
त्वं पुनर्जम्बुकस्सिंहीं मामिच्छसि सुदुर्लभाम्।नाहं शक्या त्वया स्प्रष्टुमादित्यस्य प्रभा यथा।।3.47.37।।
tvaṁ punar jambukas siṁhīṁ mām icchasi sudurlabhām | nāhaṁ śakyā tvayā spraṣṭum ādityasya prabhā yathā || 3.47.37 ||
Ngunit ikaw ay isang asong-gubat, at ninanasa mo ako—isang leonang bihirang makamtan. Hindi mo man lamang ako mahahawakan, gaya ng hindi mahahawakan ang ningning ng araw.
You are a jackal, and you want a lioness like me who is difficult to win. I am like the Sun's radiance whom you cannot even touch.
Inviolability of righteous commitment: Sītā asserts an uncrossable moral boundary—adharma has no entitlement to touch what is protected by dharma.
Sītā openly rebukes Rāvaṇa, using sharp metaphors to deny his claim and to declare her untouchability.
Courageous speech and purity of resolve: she responds without fear, affirming her dignity and unwavering fidelity.
