Concept: Merit-bearing giving is valid when offered according to one’s capacity; dharma is not annulled by limited means.

Application: Give regularly but sustainably—donate time, food, or money within your means; avoid debt-driven ‘piety’ and avoid shaming others’ smaller offerings.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: karuna

FAQs

It teaches that offerings or ritual gifts should be made in proportion to one’s means (yathāśakti), emphasizing practical, non-oppressive religious duty.

The line indicates that the instruction is being highlighted for a female audience or addressed respectfully to women in the dialogue, stressing their eligibility and guidance in the prescribed observance.

They appear as technical names for specific prescribed offerings/fees within the ritual context of the chapter. Without the immediately surrounding verses or a traditional commentary, they are best treated as fixed ritual terms rather than translated literally.
