द्रोणं हि समरे को5न्यो योद्धुमहति फाल्गुनात्‌ । रौद्र: क्षत्रियधर्मोडयं गुरुणा यदयुध्यत । इत्यब्रुवञ्जनास्तत्र संग्रामशिरसि स्थिता:,“भला, युद्धमें अर्जुनके सिवा दूसरा कौन द्रोणाचार्यका सामना कर सकता है? यह क्षत्रियधर्म कितना भयंकर है कि शिष्यको गुरुसे युद्ध करना पड़ा है।” इस प्रकार वहाँ युद्धके मुहानेपर खड़े हुए योद्धा आपसमें बातें करते थे

droṇaṁ hi samare ko 'nyo yoddhum arhati phālgunāt | raudraḥ kṣatriyadharmo 'yaṁ guruṇā yad ayudhyata | ity abruvañ janās tatra saṅgrāma-śirasi sthitāḥ |

“Sa labanan, sino pa ba—maliban kay Phālguna (Arjuna)—ang karapat-dapat humarap kay Droṇa? Kay lupit nga ng tungkulin ng kṣatriya, sapagkat ang alagad ay napilitang makipagdigma sa sarili niyang guro!” Sa gayon, ang mga mandirigmang nakatindig sa pinakaharap ng sagupaan ay nag-usap-usap—namamangha sa walang kapantay na lakas ni Droṇa at nabibigatan sa mabagsik na halagang moral na ipinapataw ng digmaan, maging sa banal na ugnayan ng guru at mag-aaral.
