The verse highlights how personal attachment and political dependence can produce intense grief even for a powerful king; it implicitly invites ethical reflection on how courts may mourn the loss of influential figures without fully confronting their misconduct and its consequences.
After Kīcaka is killed, King Virāṭa reacts with severe sorrow, and the court—ministers and the royal priest included—shares in the mourning, setting the stage for the wider repercussions of Kīcaka’s death during the Pāṇḍavas’ incognito stay.
