Draupadī’s Grief at Seeing the Heroes in Disguise

Educational Q&A

Public humiliation and the denial of a person’s dignity—especially in a royal assembly meant to uphold justice—constitute grave adharma. The verse highlights how such wrongdoing leaves lasting moral and psychological wounds, becoming a powerful ethical cause for later reckoning.

The speaker recalls an earlier outrage: Prātikāmī, acting for the Kauravas, brought/dragged the speaker into the midst of the court assembly while labeling them a ‘dāsī’ (maidservant). The verse emphasizes that the shame of that incident still ‘burns’ and remains unresolved.
