A holy place (tīrtha) can concentrate spiritual benefit: a sincere purificatory bath at Bhogavatī is said to grant the merit of an Aśvamedha. The implied ethic is that inner purity, faith, and disciplined observance can substitute for grand, costly rites.
Pulastya is describing sacred sites during a tīrtha-yātrā discourse. He points out the tīrtha named Bhogavatī associated with the Nāga king Vāsuki and states the extraordinary merit gained by bathing there.
