Sincere worship of Śiva combined with disciplined fasting can confer great spiritual merit—comparable to that of an Aśvamedha—showing that inner devotion and restraint may substitute for costly external rites.
Pulastya is describing the fruit of a particular sacred observance at a holy place: worshipping Īśāna (Śiva) and fasting for three nights leads to exceptional religious merit and the attainment of a revered spiritual status linked with Gaṇapati.
