Chapter 82
The verse teaches that disciplined purity (snāna, self-restraint, mental composure) joined with gratitude and duty toward both gods and ancestors (tarpaṇa) generates spiritual merit, culminating in honor and a blessed posthumous state described as establishment in Viṣṇu’s realm.
Ghūlastya addresses a Kuru noble, prescribing a dharmic practice: bathe, become inwardly composed, and perform tarpaṇa for devas and pitṛs. The statement frames this ritual-ethical act as a cause of exaltation and attainment of Viṣṇuloka.
