Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Sañjaya on Arjuna’s Indraloka report and the political consequences
duḥśrutaṃ me 'stu subhage yan māṃ vadasi bhāvini | gurudāraiḥ samānā me niścayena varānane ||
The verse underscores dharmic restraint and reverence: a respectable woman is to be regarded as worthy of honor, comparable to a teacher’s wife, and certain proposals or words are considered improper even to hear.
Vaiśaṃpāyana narrates a moment where a woman addresses the speaker with words he deems inappropriate; he responds by expressing distress and by affirming that he views her as venerable, like the wives of his gurus.
