Yudhiṣṭhira’s Reproof and Vow-Logic: On Dice-Deception, Exile Terms, and the Governance of Anger
Adhyāya 35
हैरण्यौ भवतो बाहू श्रुतिर्भवति पार्थिवी । हत्वा द्विषन्तं संग्रामे भुडुक्ष्य बाहुजितं वसु,महाराज! आपकी दोनों भुजाएँ सुवर्णकी अधिकारिणी हैं। आपकी कीर्ति राजा पृथुके समान है। आप युद्धमें शत्रुका संहार करके अपने बाहुबलसे उपार्जित धनका उपभोग कीजिये
bhīmasena uvāca | hairaṇyau bhavato bāhū śrutir bhavati pārthivī | hatvā dviṣantaṃ saṅgrāme bhujokṣya bāhujitaṃ vasu, mahārāja |
Wika ni Bhīmasena: “O dakilang hari! Ang dalawang bisig mo’y karapat-dapat sa ginto—angkop magwagi at magpasan ng kasaganaan ng paghahari. Ang iyong katanyagan ay tulad ng kay Haring Pṛthu. Pagkatapos patayin ang kaaway sa digmaan, O dakilang hari, tamasahin mo ang yamang napagwagian ng lakas ng sarili mong bisig.”
भीमसेन उवाच
Bhīma urges a king to uphold kṣatriya-dharma: defeat hostile forces in righteous battle, gain wealth through one’s own valor, and then enjoy and distribute prosperity as a rightful fruit of duty—supported by fame earned through just kingship.
In the forest narrative of the Vana Parva, Bhīma addresses a king with martial encouragement, praising his strength and renown (likened to Pṛthu) and exhorting him to overcome enemies in battle and enjoy the wealth obtained by his own prowess.
