सान्त्वितश्न यथाशक्ति पूजितश्न यथाविधि । न चान्यं॑ स द्विजश्रेष्ठ; कामयामास वै वरम्,कर्णने उन्हें यथाशक्ति बहुत समझाया एवं विधि-पूर्वक उनका पूजन किया। तथापि उन द्विजश्रेष्ठने और किसी वरको लेनेसे अनिच्छा प्रकट कर दी
sāntvitaś ca yathāśakti pūjitaś ca yathāvidhi | na cānyaṃ sa dvijaśreṣṭhaḥ kāmayāmāsa vai varam ||
Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: “Inaliw niya ito sa abot ng makakaya at pinarangalan ayon sa wastong ritwal; ngunit ang pinakadakilang brahmin ay ayaw humiling ng ibang biyaya.”
