Ajñātavāsa-saṅkalpaḥ — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Resolve and Dhaumya’s Exempla on Concealment
आर्यजुष्टमिदं वृत्तमिति विज्ञाय शाश्वतम् | सन्त: परार्थ कुर्वाणा नावेक्षन्ति परस्परम्,यह सनातन सदाचार सत्पुरुषोंद्वारा सेवित है। यह जानकर सभी श्रेष्ठ पुरुष परोपकार करते हैं और आपसमें एक-दूसरेकी ओर स्वार्थकी दृष्टिसे कभी नहीं देखते हैं
ārya-juṣṭam idaṁ vṛttam iti vijñāya śāśvatam | santaḥ parārthaṁ kurvāṇā nāvekṣante parasparam ||
Wika ni Yama: “Yamang nalalaman nilang ito ang walang-hanggang asal na sinang-ayunan at isinagawa ng mga mararangal, ang mabubuti ay kumikilos para sa kapakanan ng iba; hindi nila tinitingnan ang isa’t isa sa mata ng pansariling pakinabang, ni sinusukat ang pakikitungo ayon sa sariling tubo.”
यम उवाच
True virtue is recognized by its timeless, noble standard: the good act for others’ welfare and do not relate to one another through the lens of selfish advantage.
Yama, speaking as a moral authority, articulates a principle of perennial righteous conduct—defining the hallmark of ‘santaḥ’ (the good) as mutual dealings free from self-interest and oriented toward benefiting others.
