Sāvitrī’s Trirātra-Vrata and Departure with Satyavān (सावित्रीव्रतनिश्चयः सहगमनं च)
तस्याचचक्षे गन्धर्वो विश्वावसुरहं नूप । प्राप्तो ब्राह्मणशापेन योनिं राक्षससेविताम्,उसने कहा--'राजन्! मैं विश्वावसु नामक गन्धर्व हूँ। एक ब्राह्मणके शापसे इस राक्षसयोनिमें आ गया था--लंकावासी राक्षसराज रावणने आपकी पत्नी सीताका अपहरण किया है। आप वानरराज सुग्रीवसे मिलिये। वे आपकी सहायता करेंगे”
tasyācacakṣe gandharvo viśvāvasur ahaṃ nṛpa | prāpto brāhmaṇaśāpena yoniṃ rākṣasasevitām ||
Sumagot siya: “O Hari, ako si Viśvāvasu, isang Gandharva. Dahil sa sumpa ng isang brāhmaṇa, napasok ako sa kapanganakang dinadalaw ng mga rākṣasa. Alamin mo: si Rāvaṇa, ang haring rākṣasa ng Laṅkā, ay dumukot sa iyong asawang si Sītā. Makipagtagpo ka kay Sugrīva, panginoon ng mga vānaras; siya’y tutulong sa iyo.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights that moral transgression has binding consequences (a brāhmaṇa’s curse leading to a degraded birth) and that confronting adharma requires dharmic strategy—seeking rightful allies and acting to protect what is just (the recovery of Sītā after her abduction).
A Gandharva named Viśvāvasu discloses his identity and explains he has been forced into a rākṣasa-associated state due to a brāhmaṇa’s curse. He then informs the king about Rāvaṇa of Laṅkā abducting Sītā and advises forming an alliance with Sugrīva, the vānara leader, who can provide assistance.
