द्रौपदी-शैब्यसंवादः — Draupadī’s Identification and Counsel on Hospitality

द्रष्टार: सम सुखाद्धीनान्‌ सदारान्‌ पाण्डवानिति । कर्ण! महात्मा पाण्डुनन्दन अर्जुनके ऐसा कहनेपर गन्धर्वने वह बात कह दी, जिसके लिये सलाह करके हमलोग घरसे चले थे। उसने बताया कि “ये कौरव सुखसे वज्चित हुए पाण्डवों तथा द्रौपदीकी दुर्दशा देखनेके लिये आये हैं”,न चाहं त्वदृते राजन्‌ प्रशासेयं वसुन्धराम्‌ । पुन: पुन: प्रसीदेति वाक्‍्यं चेदमुवाच ह “चाहे सारी पृथ्वी फट जाय, आकाशके टुकड़े-टुकड़े हो जाय, सूर्य अपनी प्रभा और चन्द्रमा अपनी शीतलता त्याग दें, वायु अपनी तीव्र गति छोड़ दें, हिमालय अपना स्थान छोड़कर इधर-उधर घूमने लगे, समुद्रका जल सूख जाय तथा अग्नि अपनी उष्णता त्याग दे; परंतु मैं आपके बिना इस पृथ्वीका शासन नहीं करूँगा। राजन्‌! अब आप प्रसन्न हो जाइये, प्रसन्न हो जाइये।” इस अन्तिम वाक्यको दुःशासनने बार-बार दुहराया और इस प्रकार कहा --

dṛṣṭāraḥ sma sukhāddhīnān sadārān pāṇḍavān iti | karṇa mahātmā pāṇḍunandana arjuna iti vacane gandharveṇa tad uktaṃ yat kṛtvā mantrayitvā vayaṃ gṛhāt prasthitāḥ | “ime kauravāḥ sukhavihīnān pāṇḍavān draupadīṃ ca durdaśāṃ draṣṭum āgatāḥ” iti | na cāhaṃ tvadṛte rājan praśāseyaṃ vasundharām | punaḥ punaḥ prasīdeti vākyam cedam uvāca ha ||

Sinabi ni Duryodhana: “Karna, sinabi ng Gandharva ang mismong bagay na pinagpayuhan natin kaya tayo umalis sa tahanan. Ipinahayag niya: ‘Ang mga Kaurava’y dumating upang pagmasdan ang mga Pandava—na pinagkaitan ng ligaya—at si Draupadī, upang masaksihan ang kanilang paghihirap.’ At sinabi rin niya: ‘O Hari, kung wala ka, hindi ko paghaharian ang daigdig na ito. Masiyahan ka—masiyahan ka, paulit-ulit!’” Kaya’t ang pakiusap ay inulit nang may pagpupumilit, inilalantad kapwa ang hangaring manlibak sa dalamhati ng mga ipinatapon at ang sinadyang katapatan upang patatagin ang loob ng hari sa gitna ng kahihiyan.
