यूयं चाप्यपराध्येयु्दर्पमोहसमन्विता: । ततो विनिर्दहेयुस्ते तपसा हि समन्विता:,तुमलोग तो अहंकार और मोहमें चूर रहते ही हो; अतः उनका अपराध अवश्य करोगे। उस दशामें वे तुम्हें भस्म किये बिना नहीं छोड़ेंगे। क्योंकि उनमें तपःशक्ति विद्यमान है
yūyaṃ cāpy aparādhyeyur darpa-moha-samanvitāḥ | tato vinirdaheyus te tapasā hi samanvitāḥ ||
Dahil nabubulag kayo ng kapalaluan at pagkalito, tiyak na magkakasala rin kayo. Pagkaraan, ang mga ascetic—na may taglay na kapangyarihan ng matinding pag-aayuno at pagninilay—hindi kayo palalampasin nang hindi kayo sinusunog (sa kanilang lakas espirituwal).
धृतराष्ट उवाच
Pride and delusion lead one into inevitable wrongdoing, and wrongdoing brings consequences—especially when directed against those who possess spiritual discipline; tapas is portrayed as a real moral force that protects the righteous and punishes transgression.
Dhṛtarāṣṭra warns his listeners that, being driven by arrogance and confusion, they will likely offend powerful ascetics; once provoked, those ascetics, fortified by austerity, will retaliate and destroy them through their ascetic potency.
