Chapter 20
ततस्ते प्रेक्षका: सर्वे रड्रवाद इव स्थिता: । हर्षयामासुरुच्चैर्मा सिंहनादतलस्वनै:,तब वे सैनिक रंगशालामें बैठे हुए दर्शकोंकी भाँति केवल मेरे युद्धका दृश्य देखते हुए जोर-जोरसे सिंहनाद और करतलध्वनि करके मेरा हर्ष बढ़ाने लगे
tataste prekṣakāḥ sarve raṅgadvāda iva sthitāḥ | harṣayāmāsur uccair mā siṃhanāda-tala-svanaiḥ ||
Pagkatapos, ang lahat ng nanonood, na nakapuwesto na parang mga manonood sa isang arena, ay nakatitig lamang sa aking pakikipaglaban. Sa malalakas na sigaw na tila ungol ng leon at sa dagundong ng palakpakan, sinikap nilang pasiglahin ang aking loob at patatagin ang aking pasya sa gitna ng digmaan.
वासुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights the social and ethical dimension of warfare in epic narrative: collective morale and public affirmation can steady a warrior’s courage. It also frames combat as a regulated public act—watched, judged, and responded to—rather than a purely private outburst of violence.
Vāsudeva describes how the assembled onlookers, positioned like spectators in an arena, focus on his fighting and loudly cheer him on with lion-like battle-cries and clapping, thereby increasing his enthusiasm and confidence.
