Sarasvatī–Tārkṣya Saṃvāda: Agnihotra-vidhi, Dāna-phala, and Mokṣa-prasaṅga (सरस्वती–तार्क्ष्यसंवादः)

iha vaikasya nāmutra, amutraikasya no iha | iha vāmutra caikasya, nāmutraikasya no iha ||

Educational Q&A

Human outcomes differ: some gain happiness only in this life, some only after death, some in both, and some in neither. The verse frames an ethical reflection on how one should pursue the ‘highest good’ (śreyas/kalyāṇa) so that welfare is secured across both realms.

Sage Mārkaṇḍeya addresses Yudhiṣṭhira in a didactic mode, introducing an example (dṛṣṭānta) to explain what he considers the supreme welfare for humans, contrasting results in this world (iha) and the next (amutra).
