Ocean Vision and Approach to the Daitya City
तानप्यसौ मातलिरभ्यनन्दत् पितेव पुत्राननुशिष्य पार्थान् । ययौ रथेनाप्रतिमप्रभेण पुनः सकाशं त्रिदिवेश्वरस्य
tān apy asau mātalir abhyanandat pitevā putrān anuśiṣya pārthān | yayau rathenāpratimaprabhena punaḥ sakāśaṃ tridiveśvarasya ||
Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: Pinuri rin sila ni Mātali nang may init ng loob; at gaya ng amang nagtuturo sa mga anak, pinayuhan niya ang mga Pārtha. Pagkaraan, sumakay siya sa karwaheng walang kapantay ang liwanag at muling nagtungo sa harap ng Panginoon ng tatlong daigdig.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic mentorship: a superior (here, a divine envoy) offers affectionate yet principled instruction to deserving persons, and then returns to his own appointed duty—showing that counsel and service must be joined with discipline and fidelity to one’s role.
Mātali expresses approval of the Pāṇḍavas and advises them as a father would his sons. After completing his interaction, he departs in his brilliantly radiant chariot to rejoin Tridiveśvara—Indra—in the celestial realm.
