The verse foregrounds disciplined daily observance (āhnika) and reverent alignment with the natural-cosmic rhythm (sunrise, facing east) as a foundation for dharmic instruction—suggesting that ethical clarity and right counsel are supported by regular self-regulation and ritual order.
At dawn, the sage Dhaumya completes his morning duties and comes to the Pāṇḍavas with Ārtiṣeṇa. He then takes Yudhiṣṭhira by the right hand, looks toward the east, and begins a formal instruction or explanation that follows in subsequent verses.
