भरद्वाजपुत्रवधः
The Slaying of Bharadvāja’s Son and the Sage’s Lament
प्रकाल्यमानस्तेनायं शूलहस्तेन रक्षसा । अग्न्यागारं प्रति द्वारि मया दोर्भ्या निवारित:,राक्षस अपने हाथमें शूल लेकर इसका पीछा कर रहा था और यह अग्निशालामें घुसा जा रहा था। उस समय मैंने दोनों हाथोंसे पकड़कर इसे द्वारपर ही रोक लिया
prakālyamānas tenāyaṁ śūlahastena rakṣasā | agnyāgāraṁ prati dvāri mayā dorbhyāṁ nivāritaḥ ||
“Habang siya’y marahas na hinahabol ng rākṣasa na may hawak na sibat (śūla), tumakbo siya patungo sa santuwaryo ng apoy (agnyāgāra). Sa mismong pintuan, niyakap ko siya gamit ang dalawang bisig at pinigil ko siya roon.”
लोगश उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic restraint: even amid danger, one should prevent violence from spilling into a sacred or protected space, and intervene to stop immediate harm rather than escalate it.
A rākṣasa, spear in hand, is chasing someone who tries to enter the agnyāgāra. The speaker says he physically stops the pursued person at the doorway, holding him back with both arms.
