Adhyāya 136: Yavakrī–Bharadvāja Saṃvāda and the Bāladhī–Dhanuṣākṣa Gāthā
Arrogance, Boons, and Nimitta
अपां हदं च पुण्याख्यं भृगुतुड़ूं च पर्वतम् । उष्णीगज़े च कौन्तेय सामात्य: समुपस्पृश,कुन्तीकुमार! जलके इस पुण्य सरोवर, भृगुतुंग पर्वतपर तथा “उष्णीगंग” नामक तीर्थमें जाकर तुम अपने मन्त्रियोंसहित स्नान और आचमन करो
apāṁ hradaṁ ca puṇyākhyaṁ bhṛgutūṅgaṁ ca parvatam | uṣṇīgāṅge ca kaunteya sāmātyaḥ samupaspṛśa ||
Wika ni Lomaśa: “O anak ni Kuntī, magtungo ka sa banal na lawa na tanyag sa kabanalan, at sa Bundok Bhṛgutūṅga; at gayundin sa tīrtha na tinatawag na Uṣṇīgāṅgā. Doon, kasama ang iyong mga ministro at mga kasamahan, isagawa ang mga ritwal ng paglilinis—pagligo at ācaman (pag-inom ng kaunting tubig na pampadalisay) nang may paggalang.”
लोगश उवाच
The verse teaches that pilgrimage (tīrtha-yātrā) is not mere travel but a disciplined practice of purification—bathing and ācamana—undertaken with reverence and proper conduct, especially by those in positions of responsibility.
The sage Lomaśa directs the Pāṇḍava leader addressed as ‘Kaunteya’ to proceed to specific sacred sites—a holy lake, Mount Bhṛgutūṅga, and the tīrtha Uṣṇīgāṅgā—and to perform ritual purification there along with his attendants.
