अष्टावक्र-प्रवेशः तथा ब्रह्मोद्य-प्रारम्भः
Aṣṭāvakra’s Entry and the Opening of the Brahmodya
सम्पीड्यमाना तु तदा सुजाता सा वर्धमानेन सुतेन कुक्षौ । उवाच भर्तारमिदं रहोगता प्रसाद्य हीनं वसुना धनार्थिनी,जब पेटमें गर्भ बढ़ रहा था, उस समय सुजाताने उससे पीड़ित होकर एकान्तमें अपने निर्धन पतिसे धनकी इच्छा रखकर कहा--
sampīḍyamānā tu tadā sujātā sā vardhamānena sutena kukṣau | uvāca bhartāram idaṃ rahogatā prasādya hīnaṃ vasunā dhanārthinī ||
Habang lumalaki ang sanggol sa kanyang sinapupunan, si Sujātā ay napipighati sa bigat at hirap. Palihim niyang nilapitan ang kanyang asawa; dahil sa kanilang kahirapan at sa pagnanais ng salapi, sinikap niyang pagaanin ang loob nito at nagsabi—
लोगश उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical tension within household dharma: material need (especially with a child on the way) can compel requests for wealth, yet the approach is framed through respectful, private, conciliatory speech—suggesting that even urgent desires should be pursued with restraint and propriety.
Sujātā, troubled by the growing pregnancy and the family’s poverty, goes privately to her husband and, after trying to placate him, speaks to him with the aim of obtaining wealth.
