This line functions as a colophon: it frames the episode within the larger structure of the Mahābhārata and signals completion of a chapter. Its ethical-literary value lies in emphasizing orderly transmission of tradition—placing teachings, sacred places, and royal lineages within a remembered, authoritative narrative context.
The text announces that the chapter has ended: during Lomāśa’s pilgrimage narration in the Tīrtha-yātrā section of the Vana Parva, the chapter whose subject is the description of King Sagara’s descendants is now complete.
