समुद्रपानम् (Samudra-pānam) — Maitrāvaruṇi Drains the Ocean; Devas Seek a Means to Refill It
लोका होवं विवर्धन्ते ह्ुन्योन्यं समुपाश्रिता: । त्वत्प्रसादान्निरुद्धिग्नास्त्वयैव परिरक्षिता:,इसी प्रकार सब लोग एक-दूसरेके सहारे उन्नति करते हैं। आपकी ही कृपासे सब प्राणी उद्वेगरहित जीवन बिताते और आपके द्वारा ही सर्वथा सुरक्षित रहते हैं। भगवन्! मनुष्योंके समक्ष यह बड़ा भारी भय उपस्थित हुआ है। न जाने कौन रातमें आकर इन ब्राह्मणोंका वध कर रहा है
lokā hovam vivardhante hanyonyaṃ samupāśritāḥ | tvatprasādān niruddhignās tvayaiva parirakṣitāḥ | bhagavan manuṣyāṇāṃ samakṣaṃ idaṃ mahad bhayam upasthitam | na jāne kaḥ rātrau āgatya ebhyo brāhmaṇebhyo vadhaṃ karoti |
Wika ni Lomaśa: “Umuunlad lamang ang mga tao kapag umaasa at nagtutulungan sa isa’t isa. Sa iyong biyaya, nabubuhay ang lahat ng nilalang nang walang pangamba at dalamhati, at ikaw lamang ang ganap na tagapagtanggol nila. O Mapalad na Panginoon, isang mabigat na takot ang sumapit sa sangkatauhan: may dumarating sa gabi at pumapatay sa mga brāhmaṇa—ngunit hindi namin alam kung sino.”
लोगश उवाच
Human flourishing is portrayed as mutual dependence (anyonya-samāśraya), and true security is framed as arising from righteous protection—ultimately attributed here to the Lord’s grace. The verse also implies a dharmic duty to safeguard Brahmins and remove fear from society.
Lomaśa reports an alarming situation: an unknown assailant comes at night and kills Brahmins. He appeals to the addressed ‘Bhagavān’ as the ultimate protector, emphasizing that society’s peace depends on such protection and asking, in effect, for intervention to end the terror.
