The verse highlights how the approach of a major moral and political crisis affects not only rulers and warriors but the entire society. Collective fear, curiosity, and social pressure become so intense that even the city’s buildings are poetically described as trembling—suggesting that adharma and impending violence disturb the whole civic order.
In Hastināpura, large groups gather to witness developments connected with the Kuru conflict. Women sit in crowds on the roof-terraces facing the street, and the houses appear to shake under their weight—an image emphasizing the city’s tense anticipation.
