Kṛṣṇa at Duryodhana’s House: Refusal of Hospitality and Departure to Vidura (कृष्णस्य धार्तराष्ट्रनिवेशनगमनम्)
वैशम्पायन उवाच तत आश्वासयामास पुत्राधिभिरभिप्लुताम् । पितृष्वसारं शोचन्तीं शौरि: पार्थसख: पृथाम्
vaiśampāyana uvāca | tata āśvāsayāmāsa putrādhibhir abhiplutām | pitṛṣvasāraṃ śocantīṃ śauriḥ pārthasakhaḥ pṛthām ||
Sinabi ni Vaiśampāyana: Pagkaraan nito, si Śauri—si Kṛṣṇa, ang matalik na kaibigan ni Pārtha (Arjuna)—ay umaliw kay Pṛthā (Kuntī), ang kaniyang tiyahin sa panig ng ama, na nagdadalamhati at nilulunod ng pangamba para sa kaniyang mga anak na lalaki. Sa sandaling iyon, ipinakita ng pag-aliw ni Kṛṣṇa na ang dalamhati ay hindi kahinaan, kundi isang pasaning dapat patatagin sa pamamagitan ng payo, ugnayang-dugo, at matatag na paninindigan sa dharma sa gitna ng nalalapit na tunggalian.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic consolation: grief born of responsibility for one’s family is acknowledged, yet it should be steadied through wise counsel and supportive kinship—especially when decisive action and moral clarity are required in a time of crisis.
As the story is narrated by Vaiśampāyana to King Janamejaya, Kṛṣṇa (Śauri), Arjuna’s intimate friend, approaches Kuntī (Pṛthā), his paternal aunt, and reassures her as she mourns and worries intensely about her sons.
