Nakula’s Adaptive Counsel to Kṛṣṇa in the Kuru Assembly (उद्योगपर्व, अध्याय ७८)
शकुनि: सूतपुत्रश्न भ्राता दुःशासनस्तथा । इतनेपर भी उसके मन्त्री शकुनि, सूतपुत्र कर्ण तथा भाई दुःशासन--ये उसकी अत्यन्त पापपूर्ण बुद्धिको बढ़ावा देते रहते हैं ।। ७ है ।। स हि त्यागेन राज्यस्य न शमं समुपैष्यति
śakuniḥ sūtaputraś ca bhrātā duḥśāsanas tathā | itare ’pi tasya mantriṇaḥ śakuniṃ sūtaputraṃ karṇaṃ tathā bhrātaraṃ duḥśāsanaṃ ca—ete tasya atyanta-pāpa-buddhiṃ vardhayanti || 7 || sa hi tyāgena rājyasya na śamaṃ samupaiṣyati || 8 ||
Wika ni Arjuna: «Si Śakuni, si Karṇa na anak ng tagapaghatid ng karwahe, at ang kapatid niyang si Duḥśāsana—sila, at iba pang tagapayo pa, ay walang tigil na nagpapaliyab sa kaniyang lubhang makasalanang pasiya. Sapagkat hindi niya makakamtan ang kapayapaan sa simpleng pagbitaw lamang sa kaharian.»
अर्जुन उवाच
Peace is not achieved by a merely external concession (such as giving up a kingdom) when the inner disposition remains driven by sinful counsel and hardened intent; ethical transformation and right counsel are essential for true śama (peace).
Arjuna points out that Duryodhana is being pushed toward wrongdoing by key advisers—Śakuni, Karṇa, and Duḥśāsana—and argues that even if Duryodhana were to relinquish the kingdom, he would still not become peaceful because his mind is continually inflamed by such influences.
