Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 72 — Bhīmasena’s counsel on conciliation and Duryodhana’s disposition
शमं वै याचमानस्त्वं नाधर्म तत्र लप्स्यसे । कुरून् विगर्हयिष्यन्ति धृतराष्ट्र च पार्थिवा:
śamaṃ vai yācamānas tvaṃ nādharmaṃ tatra lapsyase | kurūn vigarhayiṣyanti dhṛtarāṣṭraṃ ca pārthivāḥ ||
Kung hahanapin mo ang kapayapaan at magsusumamo para sa pagkakasundo, wala kang magiging bahagi ng adharma dahil dito. Sa halip, ang mga hari ay hahatol at tatalikdan ang mga Kuru—at si Dhṛtarāṣṭra man—sapagkat tinanggihan nila ang nararapat at makatarungan.
युधिछिर उवाच
Seeking peace through sincere negotiation is itself aligned with dharma; moral blame falls on those who reject just reconciliation and drive events toward conflict.
Yudhiṣṭhira argues that making a peace-plea will not taint the petitioner with adharma; instead, other rulers will judge and criticize the Kuru side—especially Dhṛtarāṣṭra—for their culpability in obstructing a righteous settlement.
