Udyoga Parva, Adhyāya 55 — Sañjaya’s Report on Pāṇḍava Readiness and Arjuna’s Dhvaja

जैसे आकाशमें बहुरंगा इन्द्रधनुष प्रकाशित होता है और यह समझमें नहीं आता कि वह क्या है? ठीक ऐसा ही विश्वकर्माका बनाया हुआ वह रंग-बिरंगा ध्वज है। उसका रूप अनेक प्रकारका दिखायी देता है ।। यथाग्निधूमो दिवमेति रुद्ध्वा वर्णान्‌ बिश्रत्‌ तैजसांश्रित्ररूपान्‌ । तथा ध्वजो विहितो भौमनेन न चेद्‌ भारो भविता नोत रोध:,जैसे अग्निसहित धूम विचित्र तेजोमय आकार और रंग धारण करके सब ओर फैलकर ऊपर आकाशकी ओर बढ़ता जाता है, उसी प्रकार विश्वकर्माने उस ध्वजका निर्माण किया है। उसके कारण रथपर कोई भार नहीं बढ़ता है और न उसकी गतिमें कहीं कोई रुकावट ही पैदा होती है

yathā ākāśe bahuraṅga indradhanuḥ prakāśitaṃ bhavati na ca budhyate kim idaṃ iti, tathā viśvakarmaṇā kṛto 'sau citraraṅgo dhvajaḥ; tasya rūpaṃ nānāvidhaṃ dṛśyate. yathāgni-dhūmo divam eti ruddhvā varṇān bibhṛt taijasāṃśrita-rūpān, tathā dhvajo vihito bhaumanena; na ced bhāro bhavitā na uta rodhaḥ.

Wika ni Sañjaya: Kung paanong ang bahagharing maraming kulay ay kumikislap sa langit at hindi madaling maunawaan ang tunay nitong anyo, gayon din ang makulay na bandilang nilikha ni Viśvakarman—wari’y nag-iiba-iba sa maraming anyo. At kung paanong ang usok na kasabay ng apoy ay kumakalat sa lahat ng dako, nag-aangkin ng maningning na mga hugis at kulay at umaakyat sa kalangitan, gayon din inihanay ang bandilang iyon ng banal na panday. Ngunit hindi ito nagdaragdag ng bigat sa karwahe, ni humahadlang sa pagtakbo nito—isang kababalaghang may kapangyarihan na hindi nagpapabigat, at karangyaang hindi nakasasagabal.

Splendor and power, when rightly fashioned, need not become a burden: the banner is wondrous and radiant yet adds no weight and causes no obstruction—an ethical image of excellence that supports action without impeding it.
